Alla Xul Elu: is a horror-obsessed hip-hop trio from Ohio, known for their masked personas and intense, horrorcore-themed music. Founding members Joey Black and Billy Obey began their journey in 2015 with the releases “Head of Horns” and “Sci-Co: Volume 1,” which quickly became staples in the Midwestern underground scene. Their 2017 follow-up, “Necronomichron,” took listeners on a smoke-filled, B-movie-inspired journey. With the addition of Lee Carver, the trio joined Detroit’s independent label Majik Ninja Entertainment, releasing “The Almighty” in 2018 to critical acclaim among horror rap enthusiasts. The 2019 EP “Church of Xul” continued their tradition of scathing religious critique and dark imagery established in prior works. In 2020, they collaborated with producer Slasher Dave to create the death-themed “Mauxuleum” and followed it with “Necronomichron 2: Dead By Bong.”Alla Xul Elu continues to build their legacy with plans for multiple projects, streams, and live performances. Super Famous Fun Time Guys: Hailing from the enigmatic land of Luchaflorida, also known as Ohio, 8 Legz and Whipstick form the Super Famous Fun Time Guys, a duo embodying an underwhelming, never-achieve-anything attitude. These veterans, who ironically retired from professional wrestling without ever competing, redirected their efforts from the ring to music. With a unique approach that combines mutual disdain and lyrical battles, the Super Famous Fun Time Guys invite audiences to revel in their comedic turmoil and chaos through song

Melanie Maclaren / Alexis Jade [Small Room-Downstairs]

etix Melanie 132121743010079

Melanie’s music has been described as “if an acoustic Phoebe Bridgers had Dylan’s poetic magic” (The Wild is Calling).  Her one-of-a-kind stream of consciousness lyricisms has been lauded as “haunting yet humorous” and possessing a “sentimental cynicism” that “oozes with Gen-Z relatability.” Sonically, Melanie is known for weaving together the past and present threads of folk music, with classic finger-style guitar resting on ambient beds while distorted trad instruments punctuate the compositions, she creates songs that “possess the timeless country spirit without sacrificing any sense of immediacy” (Various Small Flames).

Chris Hamlett / Henry Luther & The Blackouts / Kathy Zhou [Small Room-Downstairs]

Raised in Galivants Ferry, South Carolina, Henry Luther began performing solo in the Columbia area in 2018.  His solo act began attracting attention through a combination of witty stage banter, clever but poignant songs, harmonica flourishes, and tours of the Southeast.  After the release of two solo live albums, he began performing with the Blackouts, a rotating cast of friends and multi-instrumentalists who help to reinvent the songs with every live performance.  After a brief hiatus while Henry finished his master’s degree in history, the Blackouts hit the ground running in 2023, releasing a live album called “Live at Fresh Brewed” in February and dropping their “From a Tiny Desk” EP in March, featuring songs from a live session that produced their 2023 NPR Tiny Desk Contest submission.  They are currently working on a follow-up to their last studio album, tentatively titled Highway 321 in Mono, to be released in 2024.
