Whores / Pressed / Sleuthfoot [Big Room-Upstairs]
Formed in 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia, the trio has established themselves as one of the most successful and motivated bands in the genre today. Elements of Helmet, Melvins, and the Amphetamine Reptile roster can be heard throughout their catalog, but Whores are no regurgitated throwback act. Through intense, cathartic live performances and the perfected aggressive tenacity present on their recordings, the band has gained a fervent following sure to do nothing but grow in the years to come. October 28, 2016 saw the band’s first full-length album and their debut on eOne records, “GOLD.” The album was widely praised, garnering spots in the top ten on album of the year lists through publications such as Rolling Stone, MetalSucks, Heavy Planet, Invisible Oranges, Shiny Grey Monotone, and more. The band is currently recording the follow-up to “GOLD.” Prior to their signing with eOne, Whores’ output included two now-classic EPs. “RUINER.” released December 20, 2011, put the band on the noise rock map and is now on its fourth pressing. They followed this up with the even-more popular “CLEAN.” released October 29, 2013 and now on its sixth pressing. Between these and “GOLD.” the band released a split of covers by The Cure with Rabbits and contributed the song “Bloody Like the Day You Were Born” to Amphetamine Reptile’s “Dope-Guns-‘N-Fucking in The Streets, Volume 13”. Whores also just contributed the track “Flag Day” to Amphetamine Reptile’s “Bash ’17” alongside acts such as The Melvins, Mudhoney, Lydia Lunch, and Cherubs. In their short career, Whores have received much critical praise.

Daikaiju [Small Room-Downstairs]
“This is what you need to know about Daikaiju: They’re loud. They’re all instrumental (duh). And they’re the band to see if you want to experience surf rock at its most offensive.” – Kelly Weidman, The Informer Daikaiju is a mysterious chimera of sound and imagery that was first sighted in the winter of 1999. Entities of sonic mayhem, Daikaiju takes the sound of waves crashing and shrieking atomic lizards and makes it rock in a way that instills shock and awe in all who experience their shows-a highly interactive and confrontational performance that literally draws the audience into the massive vortex of sound generated by the band. Concealed behind masks, this troupe of mystery people create a mutant style of epic, high energy instrumental rock that seamlessly incorporates a wide variety of musical styles including surf, punk, noise, metal, psychedelic and progressive rock. Like its namesake, the music of Daikaiju is a great, mysterious beast. Compelling melodies, hard-hitting riffs and shifting dynamics fuse together to create songs that dare the listener to experience the secret history of the universe-a fantastic reality of giant monsters, super humans, and extraterrestrial invasions that unfolds like the soundtrack of the greatest monster movie never made. During the early years of the 21st century, Daikaiju’s constant touring in support of their first EP, Monster Surf, built-up a substantial following throughout the southeastern U.S. They expanded their roadwork to the rest of the country as well as overseas with a tour of the Netherlands in November 2001, followed by a lengthier European stay in 2002. In February 2002, the band released their second EP, The Phasing Spider Menace which won them many new fans via liberal airplay on college radio and on a number of podcasts including Escape Pod (www.escapepod.org) a weekly podcast of science fiction and fantasy shorts. The band has also been featured on a number of U.S. and European compilations as well as on Kaiju Big Battel (www.kaiju.com) video productions. In 2005, the band released its debut full-length album on Reptile Records. The self-titled record garnered rave reviews from a wide variety of music publications including music pundits Pitchfork Media (www.pitchforkmedia.com) who hailed Daikaiju as one of the greatest instrumental surf bands currently in existence. In September 2010, the band released its second full-length album-Phase 2-on DingDong Records. The long-awaited album became a huge crossover critical success that got recognized in various annual Top 10 lists for surf, heavy metal and progressive rock releases. The band embarked on a whirlwind tour of the continental U.S. in support of the album playing well over 200 shows in 2011. In 2012, the band embarked on two European tours and continued their lengthy roadwork throughout the U.S. In 2013, the band toured the Far East for its first shows in China, South Korea, and Japan. Daikaiju tied Public Image Ltd. as the ‘Best show by a foreign touring act’ in Time Out Beijing’s “Year’s end roundup: the best of Beijing music” for 2013. Since then, the band has continued its sonic evolution, and their live performances continue to be the stuff of legends. On February 21st, 2023, Daikaiju released its third full-length album-Phase 3. The band is now poised to expand its roadwork to parts of the world they have heretofore never been.
Bongzilla / Kadabra / Seeing Hell [Big Room-Upstairs]
Bongzilla formed sometime in 1995 in Wisconsin, quickly composing a host of songs inspired by their marijuana. Very little is known about the early years of the band except for their appearances on a host of split and EP releases between 1996 and 1999, the first being Mixed Bag on Rhetoric Records in 1996. Following a split with MeatJack another 7″ EP entitled Hemp For Victory (Named after the vintage educational/propaganda film of the same name) was released on Thunder Lizard. Two more splits followed the same year and eventually Bongzilla was signed to Relapse Records. The first release on this label was Methods for Attaining Extreme Altitudes released on CD on 27 January 1998. The band at this point made yearly appearances at the Milwaukee Metalfest, notably 1999 and 2000. The band’s debut studio album Stash saw it’s release on 20 April 1999 to positive reviews. A split with Corrupted, Noothgrush and Dystopia entitled Twin Threat To Your Sanity followed. The band’s second album saw release via Howling Bull America (With a reissue three years later via Relapse). Apogee was released on 11 May 2001 and showcased three new songs along with live recordings from 1998. A compilation of all of the band’s EPs and splits to that point entitled Shake: The Singles saw release the next year. The band’s third album Gateway saw release via Relapse on 3 September 2002.Amerijuanican and Hiatus (2003 – 2009)Bongzilla would begin 2003 as part of the Relapse Contamination Festival, with their performance being released as a live album the next year. The band sporadically played shows and tours, with notable appearances at various festivals.A lineup change prompted one Dixie Dave Collins to join the band as their bassist, leading them to record the band’s fourth album. Amerijuanican was released via Relapse on 27 September 2005 to positive reviews and featured a cover of “Champagne and Reefer” by Muddy Waters. The band toured and remained active until 2009 when the group quietly took a hiatus, their last known show being Forward Fest alongside the likes of Bob Mould, Detroit Cobras and Neko Case to name a few.Barbarian Records would reissue the Shake compilation as Nuggets in 2007 with three bonus tracks while Relapse would reissue Stash with the Methods for Attaining Extreme
