Pearl & The Oysters / Louise Page [Small Room-Downstairs]
Juliette Pearl Davis and Joachim Polack aren’t just musical collaborators – they’re also life partners. As Pearl & the Oysters, they make songs that speak to eclectic tastes in music and pop culture; as Juju and Jojo, they’re kindred spirits. What began as a high-school friendship in Paris blossomed into a creative and personal relationship that has spanned decades and continents. In another life, Juliette and Joachim made pop music in Paris but when the opportunity arose, the pair skipped town for the U.S. After four years immersed in the open-minded DIY scene of Gainesville, Florida, Pearl & The Oysters headed to Los Angeles, where they connected with artists including Mild High Club and Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab, and finished up their new record, Coast 2 Coast.Coast 2 Coast draws on this experience for its colorful cocktail of sounds: the swamps of Florida and sandy L.A. beaches under a mirrorball sun; a radio picking up a faraway broadcast before tuning into an oldies pop station; crashing waves that melt into the sound of Juliette’s white noise machine. It documents Juliette and Joachim’s move across the U.S. and the unfamiliar feeling of being settled, having found a “sense of ‘home’ in one another.” Coast 2 Coast is out 21 April on Stones Throw.

Slut Magic / Flirting With Sincerity [Small Room-Downstairs]
Slut Magic is perhaps more known for their look-at-me fashion, silly diva antics, and the singer’s tits, than for any of the group’s “uncompromising…heart-on-the-sleeve” music. With a steady stream of festivals, collaborations, and Slut Magic merch, they are unabashedly moving into cult territory.Over the past five years, the band has made sexy and sarcastic indie punk/dark wave/garage pop with Laruicci Records and Rock Hand Records. Emma Sky’s dreamy to screamy vocals and nutty electric violin join with the giant sonic shapes created by Hot Boyfriend and his gold glittery guitar and pedal board (which might weigh more than he does). On drums Shannon Zakarison is the engine that keeps this rusted limousine running, and newest acolyte Jen Ho creates the perfect layer of earth under our feet on bass.In 2022 they released two singles: a punk commentary on the American Dream: Picket Fence, and an experimental hip-hop collab with Tenesha the Wordsmith. They melted in Brooklyn, toured the northeast and midwest in their craigslist limo, and made lots of new gorgeous friends. Palm Treat released a Hot Boyfriend shirt, and more new Slut Magic designs.

Telekinetic Yeti / JD Pinkus / Sleuthfoot [Big Room-Upstairs]
Based out of Iowa, Telekinetic Yeti is a two-man band that delivers sonic brutality melded with psychedelic doom wizardry, forged by the worship of the almighty riff and honed by relentless touring and dedication to their craft. Creating music as cryptically enchanting as it is heavy, you wouldn’t guess that the impressive cacophony pouring out of the speakers like molten, metal syrup is being produced by only two people. Founder and guitarist Alex Baumann explains, “Originally I decided not to have a bass player purely for logistical reasons, it was just another schedule to work around, another person who’s boss could tell us we can’t tour, but then I started seeing it as a challenge, like let’s see how heavy we can make it with just two people.” That started grabbing peoples attention.
